Who We Are?

Lui & Lui was officially born the day I moved to New York.
But the truth is—it began long before that.

I come from a lineage of makers. My grandfather was a goldsmith, an old-school artisan who worked with gold, silver, watches, diamonds, and emeralds. He built beauty with his hands, slowly, precisely, with devotion. My aunt learned from him and went on to run three jewelry stores over the course of thirty years.

And me?
I grew up in between them—playing.

I didn’t know I was learning a craft. I didn’t know I was being handed a language. I was just a child making jewelry at a table, creating pieces for myself, for my family, for my aunt’s stores. It was never a profession. It was instinct. It was play. It was love.

For years, my life moved through other forms of art—I was a performer, I sang, I acted. But when I arrived in New York, everything changed.

I moved during the pandemic, like so many immigrants, carrying a past life that no longer had a place to exist in the present. I had to begin again. With uncertainty, with limitation, with no clear path forward.

So I returned to what had always been mine, even before I understood it.
I returned to my hands.

That’s when Lui & Lui truly came into being.

You might wonder about the name.

Lui & Lui is a transformation of my mother’s name—Luisa. I wanted to honor her, but I wanted to do it in a way that felt like a world, not just a name. So I reimagined it.

Lui & Lui is her—
and everything of her that lives within me.

Two presences.
Two energies.
The origin, and the continuation.

But Lui & Lui is not only about me.

It is deeply rooted in the two most important women in my life—my mother and my aunt—and at the same time, it expands far beyond them. Lui & Lui is a living community of women and queer people. We work exclusively with women and queer individuals. This is both a political decision and an artistic one.

Because there is a sensitivity there—
an eye, a vulnerability, a way of feeling and creating—
that cannot be replicated.

That is the essence we protect.
That is the energy we build with.

At its core, Lui & Lui is jewelry.
But not just any jewelry.

We work primarily with glass—molten, fluid, unpredictable. There is something deeply mystical about glass, about the alchemy of transforming it through fire. No two moments in that process are ever the same, and because of that, most of our pieces are one of a kind.

They cannot be repeated.
They are not meant to be.

Each piece is handmade between New York and Argentina. Some are flame-formed by members of my own family, continuing the lineage I come from. Others are created here, in New York. But every single piece is finished by me, by hand, in Brooklyn.

I design them.
I assemble them.
I transform raw material into something wearable—something alive.

A piece becomes an earring, a ring, a necklace—
but more than that, it becomes a fragment of a story.

And while jewelry is our main language, it is not our only one.

Since I was a child, I have also created clothing—designing pieces even for my father, a musician, the only man I have ever dressed. And here in New York, once Lui & Lui began to take shape, I realized that my curiosity for form extended beyond jewelry.

So I allowed it.

We experiment with textiles. We play with silhouettes, colors, textures. Clothing is not as constant as our jewelry, but it is part of our universe—and it always will be.

Because Lui & Lui is not defined by category.
It is defined by expression.

If you ask who we are—
we are many things at once.

We are my ancestors.
We are a piece of my soul.
We are the women and queer people who build this brand with me.
We are every person who chooses to wear our pieces.

We are a community.
We are a dream.
We are a statement.
We are a way of feeling fashion, of thinking about fashion.

We are a path.

And above all—
we are made for others.

Because creation, at its most honest, is never just about the self.
It is about connection.
It is about offering something into the world—
and allowing it to live beyond you.
Who we are? We are everything, and we are nothing at the same time.

We are becoming.

We are still discovering ourselves along the way, still shaping, still questioning, still building what Lui & Lui is—and what it will be. There is no fixed definition, no final form. Only movement. Only evolution.

We are a process.

We are a path in constant transformation.

And maybe that’s the only honest answer to who we are.

My name is Yazmin Sol Sánchez, founder of Lui & Lui.

And I hope you enjoy what I create as much as I enjoy being chosen by you—

and having the privilege of living from what I love.
